St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church
Fr. Andriy Chirovsky will present the broad reality of twenty-four Catholic Churches that are in full and visible communion with each other, all acknowledging the leadership of the Pope of Rome. He will show how many of the Eastern Catholic Churches have a close twin in an Orthodox Church that is not in communion with Rome. It will a fascinating romp through the history and geography of Christianity. The lecture will also pay particular attention to those Christians who are facing martyrdom in the Middle East and compare and contrast some major emphases of Eastern and Western Catholic traditions, showing how they are complementary, not contradictory. A question and answer period will follow.
Fr. Andriy Chirovsky is the Founder and First Director of Canada’s Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies. He holds the Peter and Doris Kule Chair of Eastern Christian Theology and Spirituality.
