New Interim Institute Director

Dear friends of the Institute,

On January 31, 2013 I completed my second three-year term as director of the Institute. I have been recalled by Bishop David Motiuk to the Eparchy of Edmonton (effective June 16) where I will serve as chancellor of the eparchy and be responsible for developing a satellite campus for the Sheptytsky Institute.

On May 7, 2013 Father Alexander Laschuk, a MASI alumnus, joined the staff of the Sheptytsky Institute. As of June 1, 2013, the administration of the Sheptytsky Institute will be his responsibility. He will serve as the Interim Director of the Institute for administrative matters and its day to day functioning. He will be assisted by Father Peter Galadza who will serve as Assistant Director for Academic Affairs.

Until he came to the Institute, Father Alexander was employed by the Marriage Tribunal of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto and the chancery of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Toronto. Both Cardinal Thomas Collins and Bishop Stephen Chmilar have given very strong endorsements of his character and capabilities. In addition, Father Alexander is working on completing his doctorate in Canon Law at Saint Paul University.

We welcome Father Alexander and Presvitera Olenka back to the embrace of their MASI family and pray for their health, peace and happiness in this new ministry. My prayer for Father Alexander is that he may experience the same joy that I did in working with the wonderful professors and staff of the Institute and, of course, with all of you. Thank you for your every kindness.

In Christ’s peace,

Father Stephen
