23 September 2013
Another week, and nearly another month, have come and gone at MASI! Where does the time fly? We’ve been keeping busy with the semester in full-swing. On Thursday, September 12th we had the opening Mass of the Holy Spirit with our university’s chancellor, His Grace Archbishop Terrance Prendergast, SJ. That weekend we were down to Auburn for an ordination of one of our alumni, Fr Deacon Ilie Babota. At the same time, Fr Peter was down in Washington, DC, along with Subdeacon Brian, giving a presentation at the Catholic University of America on the fiftieth anniversary of Sacrosanctum Concilium.
This Thursday we are lucky to have the first of many community-focused lectures we are planning this year. At 7:30, Fr Robert (Bob) Wild of Madonna House will be giving a talk on the servant-of-God Catherine Doherty: Bridge Between East and West. It should prove to be a fascinating lecture! If you are in the Ottawa-area, please come out! There will be a free-will offering at the door to help cover the costs we’ll coup that evening. (the poster is available here)
There are a few other events coming up, check them out below! And remember our chapel schedule is posted for September and October on our website; come on out to some of our services! Thank you for keeping us in your prayers, and, if you are able, to support us financially!

MASI Hosts the First Ecumenical Vespers of the 2013-2014 School Year
On Tuesday September 17, 2013 MASI hosted the first ecumenical vespers for the 2013-2014 academic year. This event involves a rotation between three communities, Eastern Catholic, Roman Catholic, and Anglican, in a forum that allows for full participation to occur between these three communities. Approximately twenty students came out to the event, which was followed by fellowship in the MASI conference room. Next week, September 24, it will be the Anglican’s turn to host!
MASI Alumnus Ilie Babota Ordained to the Holy Diaconate
On Sunday September 15, 2013, Subdeacon Ilie Babota (BTh/STB, ’12) was one of two subdeacons ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Excellency Bishop Paul of Stamford. In attendance were the seminarians from Holy Spirit Seminary (along with their rector, Fr Michael Winn, and spiritual director, Fr Andrew Onuferko), as well as Fr Alexander Laschuk, the interim director of the Sheptytsky Institute.
