Glory to Jesus Christ!
The cold is setting in upon us here in Ottawa. November is a busy time of the year at a university: students are crunching to complete their papers and catch up on readings, professors are heading to conferences, and exams are quickly approaching. We have just over one month until the exam period begins here at Saint Paul.
The last week has continued to be busy. Last Friday was the 69th anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Andrey, our patron, and his memory was honoured the evening before by the Anti-Defamation League in New York City. Fr Peter participated in that event, before flying back the next morning so as to moderate a paper at the annual Danyliw Seminar put on here in Ottawa by the Chair of Ukrainian Studies. Then, on the weekend, both Fr Peter and I traveled to Toronto for participation in the 25th anniversary celebrations of a priest of the Eparchy of Toronto (and SPU alumnus), Fr Michael Loza. Fr Michael is the priest behind the $10-million complex being built in Oakville, Ontario and former president of the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation.
As always, we continue to rejoice in the many blessings we have. Many parishes conducted their annual collection for MASI this past Sunday. If yours hasn’t yet, please remember us in your contributions according to your ability. The world financial markets are making donations more important than ever. If your parish isn’t collecting, we always take donations at any time. We are getting ready for our Christmas newsletter, too, so keep your eyes open!
God bless you all! Please keep us in your prayers.
PS, we still have a few spots left in our upcoming icon course. If you or a friend are interested (or both!), please be sure to sign up soon!
Fr Peter Presents at the Recent Meeting of the North-American Orthodox/Catholic Theological Consultation
Fr. Peter Galadza was recently in Mississauga with members of the North-American Orthodox/Catholic Theological Consultation during their semi-annual meeting, October 24-26. Every five years the Consultation takes place in Canada, and on Friday, October 25 the Consultation was hosted for lunch at the offices of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Canada in Toronto. Metropolitan Sotirios welcomed the guests. Among them was Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto. The new Catholic co-chair, Archbishop Joseph Tobin of Indianapolis, is also pictured. Archbishop Tobin is the former superior general of the Redemptorists, and shared with Fr. Peter his fond memories of Ukrainian Catholic Redemptorists both in Canada and Ukraine.
Fr. Galadza has been a member of the Consultation since 1997. He is also pictured delivering a presentation: “Summary of the Contents of the Papers Presented to the North-American Orthodox/Catholic Theological Consultation Concerning the Question of Presbyteral Celibacy – 2012-2013.”
Year of Faith is Closed at Saint Elias the Prophet Parish
On Sunday October 28 Fr Peter and Fr Alexander traveled to Brampton to celebrate the closing of the Year of Faith with His Excellency Vladyka Stefan, eparchial bishop of Toronto and Eastern Canada. Several hundred of the faithful came out to this liturgy as well as many clergy. After the Divine Liturgy there was a blessing of water and then dinner was available for the faithful. During the Year of Faith monthly events were organized at different parishes of the eparchy which involved common prayer and testimony by individuals as to their faith stories. Speakers included individuals such as Michael Coren. The photos below are courtesy of the Friends of Saint Elias Church, and more can be seen here.
