O tell us now, dear brother, where are you going, in silence without a word? Return to us, wipe away the tears of your family and friends.
It is with great sadness that I share shocking news. Yesterday, Friday May 30, Basil (Vasyl’) Onuferko, the second son of Fr Andriy and Marijka Onuferko, died tragically in a mid-air plain crash in Arizona. Basil had been happily working as a flight instructor.
For anyone who knew Basil, his smile was a source of great joy and his self-giving brightened the lives of all those he met. We hear Rachel’s cry in Ramah. At the Institute, we too cry out, as she did, in mourning and in weeping.
We invite you all to join us in praying for Basil. But beyond that, please keep the Onuferko family in your prayers, that our Father may grant them Divine Consolation and strength in this horrific time. Fr Andriy is travelling back from Brazil and their daughter is travelling from Ukraine. May God grant them safe and speedy travels.
As funeral details are made available, they will be shared.
Basil was well-loved and respected in the Ottawa community as was his family. His death is a tragedy. In order to allow his family to grieve without intrusion, there will be no statements made by our staff beyond that which has been placed on our Institute website.
Eternal Memory, Вічная пам’ять, Христос воскрес!
