What’s Happening at MASI this Week? June 14, 2013
The previous week was a busy one at MASI, and one, unfortunately, full of grieving. Fr Andriy was in town, having arrived from Arizona late last week. On Friday Frs Peter and Alexander traveled to Montreal for the funeral of Rt Rev Oleh Koretski, pastor of the Dormition of the Mother of God parish (Rosemont) in Montreal. Fr Koretski, a mitred-archpriest and member of the eparchial college of consultors, died suddenly the previous Saturday at the age of 54. Our mourning of Basil Onuferko, son of Fr Andrew Onuferko, continued this week. Basil’s funeral liturgy was celebrated on Saturday by His Excellency Bishop Ken of New Westminster (BC).
Aside from funerals, there were other moments of sadness, we also bid farewell to Fr Stephen and Presvytera Maria, who departed this weekend for their new ministry in the Eparchy of Edmonton. A good-bye celebration occurred on Saturday night at St John the Baptist in Ottawa; the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University also hosted a coffee for Fr Stephen on Thursday. We also had moments of joy, and on Sunday MASI alumnus Fr Dr François Beyrouti was honoured by the Ottawa-area Lebanese community for his many successes, especially his fifteenth anniversary of priesthood and completion of his doctorate. Frs Peter, Andriy, and Stephen were able to attend this great celebration.
This upcoming week our professors will be again travelling, with Frs Alexander and Peter in Toronto. As a result, there will be no Wednesday liturgy this week in our Institute chapel!
